ADL Heartland, headquartered in St. Louis, was established in 1958 providing services to Southern Illinois, Missouri, and Eastern Kansas. In 2017, the office marked the 30th anniversary of its largest education program, the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute. One of the earliest Institutes in the country, St. Louis maintains a large and experienced cadre of anti-bias education professionals, and has created a series of unique and collaborative approaches to presenting its award-winning curricula. Teaming up with the St. Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum and the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center, ADL Heartland presents programs to almost 4000 students, teachers, police officers and other individuals annually.
Beginning in April 2020, all in person events and trainings have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled until 2021. ADL Heartland is working remotely but is continuing community-building work and responding to incidents with advocacy and education. Key partnerships include the US Attorneys Hate Crimes Task Force and interfaith coalitions throughout the region. We are currently developing innovative virtual approaches to interactive anti-bias learning, police education, and youth engagement.
